Ares Lite: A Decent Solution For Simple Filesharing
Ares Lite is an interesting little file sharing application. It was created during the days when Ares Galaxy was still king of the file sharing programs, and developed to be a stripped down version of the giant. The developers made a brilliant move to name the program, ‘Lite’. It caused people to think it offered a critical, and unique difference to other versions on the market, which was not the case at all. While still effective for someone with simple file sharing needs, the increases in the efficiency of other software programs, has made Ares Lite a somewhat dated choice, with limited capabilities.
When Ares Light first emerged from the shadow of Ares Galaxy, users in the peer sharing community breathed a sigh of relief. There had been an unwelcome trend developing, where the free P2P software was being bundled with adware and malware. When users would download the software, they would be inundated with ads and find unwanted apps running in the background of their computer.
People wanted the ability to participate in file sharing, but they didn’t want to be held hostage by the unwanted ads and spyware that were becoming prevalent with some of the more popular versions. (Ares Destiny/Dealio were two of the biggest proponents of bundling.) Suddenly, Ares Lite came on the scene, offering free peer to peer sharing software, and guaranteeing that users would not experience any malware. It was welcomed with open arms in the community, and quickly became very popular.
The problem, however, was that people began to equate Lite as being the only version of Ares that was free from malware. This was (and still is) far from the case. Many of the other lesser known versions available during that time offered the same guarantee. Many of the newer versions of the Ares applications out today, like Ares Vista, are also 100% clean, and feature a much more robust and enjoyable user experience.
As the technology evolves, and the efficiency of other versions increases, Ares Lite has found itself struggling to stay relevant. Many users complain of a long wait to get their first connection. Another problem is that the download speeds have been decreasing, as users are leaving for more active file sharing communities.
Ares Lite is still a good choice if you’re looking for simple file sharing needs. However, if your needs are more complex, or you want to experience the latest advances in the file sharing world, you may not be very satisfied with the experience.
