Aries Destiny: Where File Sharing Programs Went Wrong
Aries Destiny is a peer to peer file sharing program. It uses the decentralized Ares network along with a bittorrent plugin to distribute files to users. The Ares network offers one of the largest file sharing communities on the web, and its infrastructure is considered to be top notch. Aries Destiny built off of this solid base, and created a file sharing program that functions quite adequately, particularly for a free service. Unfortunately, it also comes with a very nasty surprise – one that negates any benefit to be had with the application.
First Impressions… Don’t Judge a Book By Its Cover
When you visit the site for Aries Destiny, the first impression is that of a very professional and robust service. There is no hint at what lurks below the surface, and no cause for any undue alarm. The download process is very simple, even for the most ardent technophobe, and the installation process runs very smoothly. The interface is pretty user friendly as well, though a little outdated and a tad confusing for someone completely new to file sharing. Overall, however, it’s a decent layout and nothing that would be considered a deal breaker for most file sharing users.
Bells And Whistles
Aries Destiny also comes with all the bells and whistles you would expect from a file sharing program. It features fast downloads, millions of files, and a powerful library organizer. In no time, you can quickly start downloading music from all around the world.
If the program had stopped right there, it would have been a major contender in the file sharing community. However, Aries Destiny chose to do something that made it quite unpopular. It bundled their package with Dealio, which is touted as a useful “shopping comparison toolbar.” Users, reviewers, and even online security sources however, have called it by a different name; malware.
Dealio: Malware And Adware
Dealio is actually a nasty piece of adware that causes unwanted pop up ads to show up on your computer. Unfortunately, you don’t find this out until after you’ve downloaded the application. To make matters even worse, Dealio is extremely difficult to remove. There’s just no easy way to get it off your system.
Aries Destiny: Lots Of Promise
Aries Destiny held a lot of promise, but it was overshadowed by the addition of Dealio to their package. What could have been a fairly useful file sharing program devolved into an invasive and problematic one. With other top notch programs built off of the powerful Ares infrastructure, like the popular Ares Vista, which features no malware and a cleaner interface, it makes the decision to bundle with Dealio all the more puzzling. Aries Destiny had a good thing going, but unfortunately, they got it all wrong in the end.
