BitComet: Is It Worth The Hassle?
Bitcomet is a peer to peer file sharing application that takes a slightly different approach than the other file sharing programs. The interface created for the program is very similar to that of Windows Explorer, with a touch of the basic Bittorrent template thrown in for good measure. It makes the interface easily recognizable for anyone familiar with the two layouts, and makes users instantly comfortable with the application. Unfortunately, many users have complained about the stability of the program, and the decision to bundle the application with malware.
Simple Interface
Bitcomet provides a simple interface with big buttons and familiar icons. Users can find their way around quickly and the layout is considered one of its best features. With just one window open, you can control all your downloads (ftp, bittorrent, html) and you can even set the “global maximum download speed”, which allows you to use your browser simultaneously, although at a very slow speed.
While its interface has been praised, Bitcomet has received less than stellar reviews on its overall functionality. The file sharing program has been plagued with complaints about the stability of its application. Users say the program crashes frequently, and many have said that the newer versions are actually slower and less reliable than older versions of the application. Others have mentioned the fact that Trojans and viruses are found throughout the downloads, and that there is not enough oversight with the security of the files being shared.
Spyware And Adware… What A Turn Off
Perhaps the biggest complaint from those who have tested the Bitcomet program, is the amount of spyware and adware that the application installs. Users say the malware is both annoying and intrusive: the ads start popping up almost immediately. As soon as the software is downloaded, you’ll start seeing them show up on your screen. You are also inundated with ‘helpful suggestions’ that urge you to upgrade the program to a paid version for increased speed and reliability.
Advertisements are also prominently displayed on the main interface, and users say they are literally bombarded with ads as their file is being downloaded. The application also monitors your browser behavior so it can target its ads more effectively. Many users feel the program basically hijack your system, and are uncomfortable with the level of control it’s given when installed.
Multitude Of Issues
Many users of BitComet are tired of dealing with the multitude of issues brought about by downloading the application. They have started to switch to more robust and secure programs like Ares Vista, which is free of any malware and uses the latest technology to ensure their application in consistently fast and reliable.
While Bitcomet was once viewed as an effective file sharing application, it seems with each release, it has actually become less functional and more problematic for its users. Time to get out of the race.
