The recent calls to ban Salvia are perhaps surprising given what little we know – for good and for bad – about the hallucinogenic plant.
Researchers have little to work with, really, and banning Salvia completely will totally scupper any plans to work with it to find out what it’s all about.
The ‘Ban it NOW!’ reaction it has been subject to is an overreaction: Salvia has never been the direct cause of death, ever. It was cited as a cause in the tragic death of a Delaware teen, but there is no proof that the kid’s use of Salvia was the main cause of his death.
The drug can be taken in a number of ways but the best – and most potent – is to smoke it; this gets the active hallucinogenic ingredient into the bloodstream much quicker and so its effects are felt almost instantly.
Salvia can be purchased online or in shops around the US – the only places where it isn’t on sale is those handful of States that have deemed it sensible to ban the harmless shrub. It is entirely legal to buy, give, sell, possess or use Salvia if you’re not in one of these backward states. Get it while it’s hot!
