Salvia divinorum is a legal hallucinogenic plant that hails from Mexico. It is a member of the sage family and in fact is a close relative of mint plant. It has extremely potent hallucinogenic properties and is used by Mazatec Shamans to induce a drug-fuelled high. Salvia can be smoked, chewed or even drunk, but smoking produces by far and away the most potent results.

Little is known about Salvia. Little is known even of its results. What is sure is that it messes with your head in quite a big way. Scientists believe that it affects the brain and this is borne out by different people describing wildly differing experiences when taking the drug.

Some users do not feel anything more than a little oddness. Others just a hazy calm feeling. Still others have said to feel like they are experiencing flying. Many people see or hear hallucinations of varying types: from swirling colors to dancing pigs.

What is for certain is that the Salvia trip is short lived: ten minutes is likely to be the maximum. It is for this reason that Salvia is safer than chemicals like LSD; it is probably for this reason that Salvia remains legal in most countries across the world. Some states have banned smoking salvia though, so do check before you buy any.
