“Amnesty Allowed” Anime Architect Announces

September 14th, 2007 by Lee

Odex, the large distributor of Anime cartoons, has been crying for blood.

P2Pnet reports that it has been asking for the names of around 1,000 Pacific Net users who have recently downloaded copyrighted versions of its cartoons. Pacific Net

respects the rights of intellectual property owners and at the same time, also believes in protecting the privacy of all our subscribers

So if you were worried, don’t be. Now you’re safe. Breathe deeply.

Now Odex’s Stephen Sing, the company’s director, offers the illegal downloaders an amnesty if they stop downloading immediately. Why should this worry people if they’re on Pacific Net, and Pacific Net will not be giving out any details of its subscribers? Well, because Odex have hired US-based sentry company BayTSP to fight on their side. So not only will Sing be might annoyed with unrepentant downloaders, they may also find themselves in trouble with the law.

Bay TSP have reportedly provided to Odex a software package that can record instances where users of P2P
filesharers have downloaded unauthorised copies of its anime titles.

Is Odex serious? It looks like it. Apparently many downloaders have already been issued with letters demanding payments for the titles they have downloaded.

So Anime has joined the fray, on the side of the RIAA and MPAA, and is battling bravely against the ‘little people’. As yet another industry starts to crack down on the illegal sharing of copyrighted products, where will P2P filesharing end up?
