Aussies give thumbs up to filesharing

Apparently the filesharing revolution is in full swing in Australia, where about 18% of the population get their free music downloads illegally with programs like Limewire and Ares.

14-to-17-year-olds are the worst of the bunch, allegedly, with one in three regularly involved in shady filesharing activities. Interesting to note is that half of these teens think that filesharing is stealing. Guess they aren’t too bothered.

The Aussie government is trying to devise a way to combat the problem of filesharing. Most songs are downloaded using Limewire, Kazaa and Bearshare.

Stats show that in Australia, for every one legal music download, there are 20 illegal music downloads. ISPs are now being turned to in order to help deal with the problem as about 70% of Aussie net traffic is related to illegal filesharing.

Britain, France and now Australia are looking to get tough in the war on filesharing. We’ll see who comes out on top.
