Finally Joost goes out of its seemingly endless invitation-only period and opens to the masses. Hurrah for the masses says ZeroPaid! According to the Joost blog, it’s now time for us all to enjoy a
ballooning selection of comedy, music videos, documentaries, movies and the latest hits from some of your favorite media brands, including CBS, Major League Baseball, MTV, Turner, Comedy Central and more — over 15,000 shows to date.
Sounds interesting. Is it free? Well, yes, just like anything else supported by Advertising (and no doubt a fair chunk of investment capital) can be free. Joost is still in Beta, and there’s apparently a lot more work to be done before those in the know are satisfied, but it’s all up and working and ready for your to join in.
Exciting times, and it’s another free service that is using non-text methods of creating ‘content’ which can be supported by loads of premium advertising. The beauty of free video, TV and music is that, unlike traditional written content, it’s easy to engage the average web-viewer for longer; reading takes so much effort!
Naturally this is good advertising for the networks that decide to place their programs on the Joost menu, too. But how long will it be before people start cancelling network subscriptions since they can get the material on Joost anyway? Probably never: people still go to the Cinema even though all they see there will soon be available on TV at a later date. The networks’ reactions are worth watching out for, anyway. Another good place to find games and smart phone related downloads is here.
