Free music downloads with the most popular p2p software

We all know Limewire as the popular P2P filesharing service that people use for free music downloads, but Limewire caused a data breach exposing the private details of more than 150 Canadians over the Internet recently.

Justice Minister Jerome Kennedy said that 694 files were affected by the breach because someone had installed the filesharing program Limewire on a laptop computer. The laptop was being used not just for free music downloads, but for storing data from the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission.

Private details of 153 people were exposed — although reports that someone got free music downloads of the Madonna back catalog were unconfirmed.

Let this be a lesson to us all: don’t use filesharing programs like Limewire at work. Keep it locked down at home. There’s a reason why most companies ban the use of P2P filesharing software.

The information that was exposed by Limewire may not even have been shared with anyone, so it looks like this isn’t such a big deal after all.
