MediaDefender, the great defender of copyright and antagonist of the Little People has leaked internal emails to, irony of ironies, a torrent site. They are not happy. The emails are as recent as September 2007, and contain messages to and from senior staff members.

The leaked information contains payroll information, SSNs and home addresses for employees. Nearly 700MB of emails have been leaked, including some very interesting emails condoning the release of the MiiVi.com site that MediaDefender put online to snare unsuspecting downloaders using fake torrent trackers (again introduced by MediaDefender and its ilt) rather than trusted torrent software like Ares. MediaDefender denied that MiiVi was a ‘honeypot’ website, designed to trick people, but the internal emails tell a completely different story, says P2Pnet.net.

This isn’t just emails, though. Details of their entrapment services, the IPs they use, lists of their servers, effectiveness of fake torrents, and even pictures of MediaDefender weekend trips. Interesting. According to P2Pnet.net, then “amount of information is staggering”.

mails abound about the Miivi project, but there were some particularly interesting ones about a particular torrent there (bear in mind this is an internal project, so MediaDefender employees got it in there somehow):

I just flagged it as Other Terms of Use violation. It’s a warthog (or maybe it’s a big bushy dog, I can’t tell) having sex with a woman and NOT a Korn vs. Slipknot mash-up video.

he wonders of P2P Media player, and the wonderful ironies of life.
