It’s morning. You’re on the way to work. Time for a coffee? Check. Ah, a Starbucks (TM) outlet! Mediocre over-priced coffee in an room with no atmosphere! Perfect! You’re bored with all the tracks on your iPhone; you really need some new ones. No worries! Apple are in town and you can now search, preview, buy and download music from its iTunes store at some Starbucks locations, reports ZeroPaid.

Naturally the offer is only available to those of you with a participating Apple device – hat better reason to go out and buy a new iPhone? When an Apple device is used in the store, it will automatically connect to the iTunes store – and there is no connection fee while you’re on. It will even show you the name of the music that is current playing over the cafe’s loudspeakers.

Operation of the new iTunes Wi-Fi store will be exactly the same as on the standard iTunes store, it’s just going to be available on the move. The irony of the first paragraph aside, this could be a useful service to those people who spend time in cafes and find a spare few minutes that can be used to update their collection with the latest chart hits. Being able to log on and buy the track that is being played to you while you drink your coffee and read a magazine is going to be wonderful news to any of us that has stood in a music shop whistling a tune and hoping the poor staff will recognise and sell the track to us.

The service will be unrolled in 600 Starbucks locations in New York and Seattle – who would’ve guessed the coffee capital of the US would get in on this coffee related adventure?

What next? Offering the latest papers and best-selling paperbacks in e-book format for download? Now there’s an idea…
